This is SERRRRRRRIOUSLY like crack.
Use whatever ratios you see fit.
Purple cabbage sliced
purple or white onion sliced
carrots julienned or greated or slices or peeled!
Cilantro
Gala Apple Julienned
Sauce
Tahini
Apple Cider Vinegar
Unsweetened Almond Milk or Water
When i made this i probably used 1/4 of a head of cabbage so i eyeball everything but i think it was about 1/4C tahini, 2-4tbsp vinegar and splashes of almond milk to thin it out then dump into your veggies, and serve!
beware, like i said... like crack.

One Skillet Simmered Cod
This was bangin. I went off of a found recipe but completely changed it for health and dietary reasons, so tis now my own creation.
Package of codfish pieces from trader joes (1-2LBS)
1 Quart box of vegetable broth
1 C Almond Milk
5-6 Cloves garlic minced
2 medium to large onions finely chopped
3-4 tbsp olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
In a large sauce pan bring broth to boil and place cod in. Lower to a simmer. Cook 10mins and flip and cook another 10. (do not put lid on). take the cod out. add rest of ingredients, bring to a boil then lower and simmer 5 or so mins. Return cod back to pan and simmer another 5 mins. At this point it should be a nice thickened sauce. If you are only cooking 1lb, u may want to half the sauceyness.. it does give a lot, but if u wanna serve w/ plain brown rice, and mound on the sauce, it's DELISH. i also love love love garlic and onions together so i always use a lot. use less if u desire!

Quick Minestrone Soup
2-3 carrots chopped
2 stalks celery chopped
1 onion chopped
3 cloves garlic minced
small cooked pasta of your choice in a bit of evoo to prevent sticking(i used brown rice pasta)
2 14oz cans of fire roasted tomatoes pulsed in a blender til smooth(i used one can that had chilis for spice)
1 quart box of vege or chicken broth
1 can kidney beans drained rinsed
1 can pinto beans drained rinsed (i just used 1/2 can but i like beans so should have used 2)
dry or fresh parsley and basil
salt and pepper to taste
Saute veggies till cooked. Add all ingredients except pasta and cook 20 mins. Add pasta when your going to serve or once soup is cooled and your going to pack in the fridge. (I dont like when pasta turns to mush or soaks up all the broth)
The key to this soup is the fire roasted tomatoes!!!
Shrimp Spring Rolls
Rice Paper
Cooked Shrimp
Cilantro
Basil
Greens (i used baby but romaine is great too)
julienned carrots and cucumbers
Bon Bon Sauce - Recipe taken from Raw Revolution
1/2 C tahini
2 Tbsp shredded ginger
1 Clove garlic Crushed
2 Tbsp tamari
2 tbsp agave (i didnt use any when i made mine)
1/2 tsp thai red curry paste (i used 1tsp and thought it could have used more)
Directions:
Blend bon bon sauce in a blender til smooth. Add water or almond milk to thin out to your liking.
Dip wrappers in water according to directions.
Lay one down on a damp cutting board and lay another one over it covering half of it horrizontally. Place your greens, then bon bon sauce, veggies, herbs and shrimp. Roll up best you can and cut in half. I then serve with more bon bon sauce but i thin it out w/ some rice wine vinegar and more tamari.
Dont serve on paper plates. they'll stick!

Ranger Training Day 10
Not gonna lie to you. I missed ranger training this morning. To be quite honest, i was out till 5 am last night and i dont think 45 mins of sleep would have worked for me. I am a dedicated individual, but sometimes life happens and... and life happened for me last night. Met some really amazing genuine cool peeps last night, and for that I am grateful.
Flaking out def sucks on my part, but when my head hit the pillow, i was like, oh shit, i'm supposed to run 7 miles on sat for broad st run training sched, i'm not supposed to work out day before... so i was like, ok.. PERFECT then. I dont feel so bad. cause honestly... so far ranger training has been great, but i've been REALLY REALLY REALLY tired. and i think i needed this day off in all honesty.
and evethough i'm only working on a few hours sleep my body feels really really good today. Also, some other things i'm working through... i weighed myself this morning and i lost 2.3 lbs in a week and a half. i was really curious to weigh myself cause i feel like i've been eating like a horse. like a dude almost. not used to this appetite. and wasnt sure how i was going to reflect on the scale... so to lose that weight when i feel like i've been eating a shit ton is pretty cool. also, just to throw it out there, i dont know if i really lost 2.3 in a week an a half because i was PMSing that week and a half ago so i coulda been retaining water, etc... again, who knows...just throwin it out there.
so since i can eat more, the key is to make sure i dont slide in any garbage. Kind of a tempting thing!
oh also, want to throw it out there that i've been drinking on the weekends too and still had this kind of weight loss. i pretty much stick to vodka/gin and sodas and sometimes wine. i do this not because of the carb thing.. i do this cause i'm not a fan of sweet mixers or soda pop...and drinking beer fills me up and makes me uncomfortably full, so that's what works for me.
Have a great weekend ya'll and see u on monday!

Ranger Training Day 9
YOOOOOOO listen to this. I was on time this AM w/ time to spare. My whole thing is absolutely everything needs to be ready in advance. No filling water bottle that morning. No picking out clothes that morning. No packing bags that morning. EVERYTHING must be done in advance for me to be on time. Simple as that.
Todays Training:
Lap around Rittenhouse (also known as Victory Lap, im not a fan of this phrase, lol)
4 Sets - Run 1/2 way around frog green, Lunge Walk Back
4 Sets - Stand on and off bench, 20 right leg, 20 left leg, 20 jumping jacks
Victory Lap
4 Sets - 20 Stand up, sit down, 20 jumping jacks
So that stand on and off the benches was a new one. those concrete benches are kinda high. so its a pretty major workout for a shorty like myself, but i worked it out. for as well as i can do a lot of this lower body leg stuff, my legs should be fitter. i mean thats the way i see it. LOL. i just gotta keep doing it. I do notice a difference for sure. Training for running and ranger has created a bigger space b/w my inner thighs (SCORE!) and i'm noticing my calves are getting smaller (ANOTHER SCORE). My hamstrings SUUUUUUUPER tight.. i'm even doing 2 days of yoga/stretching and they're still super tight. i'm sure on an off day like sunday i'm going to notice some toning improvement. thats usually when that happens. on ur day of rest. well for me at least. thats always a fun day.. lookin in the mirror and being like, dammmmmmmmn, i like what i see.
its a REAAAAALLLLLLLY huge accomplishment to look at yourself in the mirror and see all the positive. It used to be the other way around years ago. Its quite a rarity for me to point out a negative in my head, but it does still happen. human nature i guess, but i am light years mentally and physically past where i was just a few years ago. Big Stuff kids! I owe it to never giving up. Try Try Try again. and Keep trying even though you've failed those other 77 times.

Ranger Training Day 8
So i should posted yesterday but was busy w/ the big sales meeting we had in the office. So, yeah i was late by 4 mins. missed 1 lap around rittenhouse. pissed me off. vowed again that i would not be late, but this was the workout
no breaks, constant movement...
lap around rittenhouse
sets of 10, 15, 20, 25 - full situps, crunches, leg lifts, hip thrusts, bridge to plank, roach walk, bicycle
lap around rittenhouse
sets of 10, 15, 20, 25 - leaning push ups w/ run around frog walk in b/w each set
sets of 10, 15, 20, 25 - dips w/ run around frog walk in b/w each set
sets of 10, 15, 20, 25 - sit & stand w/ run around frog walk in b/w each set
lap around rittenhouse
yeah, tough. my hamstrings are very tight as well as ankles and my knees are sore. good work out though. somehow me and chewy fell behind, not sure how that happened. i think some peeps don't know how to count, but since we fell behind nate gave us the goal of trying to catch up to the peeps that started their last lap before us.. i thought to myself, no way... but was like, i'm doing this.... and i did. me and chewy lapped everyone but mighty mike who was pretty far out. KICK ASS!

Ranger Training Day 7
Yipppeeee. i made it right one time this go... wanna know what i did. i wore my work out clothes to bed. LOL. i know, pathetic, but once i pop outta bed i just throw my shorts on and i'm ready to brush my teeth, wash my face, walk the dog and get a move on! woot...
training was
jog twice around rittenhouse
4 sets of jog then lunge walks
jog once around rittenhouse
-10, 15, 20, 25 crunches, w/ a jog, 20 jumping jacks and jog back b/w each set
-10, 15, 20, 25 hip lifts (forget what they're called), w/ a jog, 20 squat thrusts and jog back b/w each set
-4 sets of 20 bicycle crunch, w/ a jog, 20 mountain climbers and jog back b/w each set
4 sets of jog then lunge walks
annnnnnnnnnnnd my legs are kinda killin. my right hamstring is pretty tight, more so then the left.. although the left is tight too. i went to yoga yesterday and i was doing a baby cobra and my freaking arms were shaking from all the push ups yesterday. i'm like damn, even this pretty easy yoga class on the regular is hard and tiresome for me. i'll prob only do yoga twice during the week w/ ranger. we'll see if i can run at all during the week, but honestly, my body is freaking tired. and i probably have a multitude of goals that dont really line up w/ what i'm doing... i wanna run, i wanna tone up, i wanna lose some weight in the process, etc.. so the eating is where it gets confusing. i gotta eat enough to have enough energy but i dont want to eat too much where i wont lose weight. TRICKY TRICKY TRICKY.... especially when i'm not used to training like this.. so this is def a cool learning experience and i'm psyched to see what happens. i really do enjoy playing scientist on my body and this is kinda what it's like. :)

Ranger Training Day 6
Shoulda posted yesterday but didnt get to it. Welp, my weekend consisted of a bit of partying and i totally missed my 6 mile 9am run on saturday. I'm actually kinda ok w/ it because ranger training has been including a lot of running and doing dual training last week sorta kicked my butt and was too much. i welcomed this sleep all day on sunday relaxation station time.
So Monday i was late. again. by 5. damnit!
Training was pretty freaking intense. most instense thus far. No real breaks. Constant movement. hydrate when necessary but no standin around.
-jog once around rittenhouse
-10, 15, 20, 25 leaning pushups, jog around the green b/w each set
-10, 15, 20, 25 standard pushups, jog around the green b/w each set
-10, 15, 20, 25 legs elevated pushups, jog around the green b/w each set
-10, 15, 20, 25 dips, jog around the green b/w each set
yeah this was tough but i welcomed it. this workout made me question my weekend drinking and partying. probably try to refrain from partying too hard on saturdays during training. it kinda will ruin my progress. and so i'm like, ok, i got fridays, --oh wait, no i dont cause i have sat AM runs for broad st. training. lol ok i got no days... BUT, broad st is in like 2 weeks. i kinda cant wait till this run is here, so i can be done and over w/ that. i'm thinking i may have taken on too much at once. havent had any time to mess around musically. and its been a goal of mine that i've been putting off. once broad is over, thats it for that...

Ranger Training Day 5
Welp, last night i was tired at 9pm. 9PM?! WTF. Seriously. and then i tweeted about how it really is putting a damper on my social life. I'm used to going out to DJ Nights no problem. In my old age of 28, its def changed to maybe 1 or 2 nights during the week..before that it was pretty much every night, and i'm totally cool w/ that, but since starting ranger training.... its pretty much going to be no nights out. It's slightly depressing to hit that "No" I wont be attending your facebook event if its during a weeknight. BUTTTTT, something has to be sacrificed right? Not that i drank a ton during the week anyways, but at least i know that i wont be having anything right before bed... and if i do want to go out, its gonna hafta be happy hours. ---which is kinda cool cause i NEVER do happy hours. that's always my gym time. Doesn't center city sips start soon. SCORE!
But yeah, this is putting a damper on my social life, but this is something that i REALLY wanted to do for myself. I coulda taken ranger training in the evening, but i wanted to do it early in the morning because I want to test and push myself. I really love challenging myself physically. And i think that's probably due to the fact that these are things that i thought i could never do when i was in the state i was in years ago. Large n in charge my friends.... the other reason i like physical challenge is from learning that i can become stronger. Building strength is one of THE COOLEST feelings in the whole wide freaking world. Becoming stronger is amazing. I never never never had that feeling or knew what it was until ranger training 1 day/wk at 12th st gym. I never could do a push up and now i'm ready for the sets. I'm ready for what's going to be thrown at me next. and i'm ready to compete on some level.. with myself and with others... i'm really looking forward to see how much stonger/faster I will become over the next 12 weeks. I wanna take a before and after pic too and i keep forgetting...
so, on to today. i was late. again. by about 5 mins F********CK. seriously. i talked to chewy about this. BTW Chewy is my guy buddy that I recruited to do training. So yeah, i talked to chewy about this and he's like, rach... what time do u stroll into work? ur not used to having to be on time in the morning. you're not a morning person. you're doing pretty good. and dude's gotta point.. but for next week i have an odd feeling that sgt. nate isn't gonna take any more excuses.... considering his motto is, "Don't Make Excuses, Make It Happen". SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, next week ima make it happen. thats all there is to it. i just GOTTA GET THE F UP.
So yeah, i missed the push up part of the PT test. which is where u see how many u can do in 2 mins. bummer. would have liked to know that but there were a lot of people that missed class today since it was rainy and cold out i guess.. so we'll prob do again monday... but for the sit ups, i did 66, which is REALLY REALLY good. I didnt even start to slow down or get winded until there was like 15 seconds left. My core is pretty freaking good and i owe that to pilates and ranger. After that we put our mats up (which i ended up leaving at rittenhouse by mistake and when i went back it was gone :( ) and headed over to the infamous fountain. The routine was such:
4 Sets, 10, 15, 20, 25 - Leaning Push Ups w/ a run around 1/4 of the park
4 Sets, 10, 15, 20, 25 - Dips w/ a run around 1/4 of the park
4 Sets of 20 - V Sit ups w/ a run around 1/4 of the park
This is rough doing back to back w/ no breaks and i calculated that all those short runs totaled about 1.8 miles. not bad. This was the kinda training i liked cause it's tough. And when it's tough and there's a bit of a struggle, you know it's workin. I also liked this work out cause honestly, it showed me how decent of shape i'm currently in. I kinda rocked it out. I pace myself properly and I feel i have pretty darn good endurance. A new thing i'm building. :)
We've been informed by Nate to make sure we get a full night's sleep sunday cause it's apparently on for monday. and chewy ran into nate later and nate again has said that we all pretty much need to be scared. AWESOME. can't wait. Until next week kids!

Ranger Training Day 4
Well first let me start off by saying last night i ran as part of my training for the broad street run. its not in my schedule to do back to back running, but i didnt want to run thursday (today) cause i wanted to be in good shape for the PT test we are doing at ranger training on Friday. So im trying to work around this whole dual training thing... well... running back to back days was not smart. I completely and totally exhausted my body and my mind... i was supposed to run 4 which should be completely doable for me, but at 3 that was it... i mean shit, when i hit 1.5 i was like, damn.... at first i got upset with myself.. like why can't i do this. i should be able to do this... but then i reasoned with myself and i'm taking on a lot at once. And to use this is a learning experience... No back to back running for me! so no more running until saturdays 6 mile. OHHHH GOod gravy, that'll be a first...
if i havent mentioned already. I AM NOT A RUNNER. never have been cause i've been overweight most my life. So i just have to remember that even if i run 1 mile, thats a big accomplishment. i used to get dizzy, winded and want to throw up after running 1/2 around a track. lol
but yeah, so hopefully some days off my feet will help w/ the blisters and soreness and on friday when i pick up new breathable shoes, this will help. probably not smart to run 6 miles in new shoes so i guess the old ones will have to do for saturday and i'll start fresh w/ the new next week...
so about ranger training... i made it at 7:01... this whole hauling ass in the morning is becoming a REAL annoyance. i dont like to be frenzied..and i tried my whole setting alarm at 5:50. that didnt help. well i only set 1 at 5:50. I guess i have to set them all at 5:50. YES friends.. I have 3 alarms. the loud NPR one in my office where i have to get up to hit snooze, my phone, and XPN next to my bed. i'll give that a go tonight. we'll see what happens.
training was pretty light today to give a slight break for the PT test tomorrow. We did some light cardio w/ some jogs around in the grass and a lot of stretching. many of us were pretty tight. and i havent given myself a good stretch or had a yoga class all week, so this was needed and felt LOVELY.
The PT test tomorrow is 2 mins to see how many sit ups and push ups we can do in that given amount of time... not sure what else he has in store for us, so we'll see!
For now i'm going to keep my runs to Mon and Wed or Tue and Thur (+Sat long run and now i see in my training a supplemental short sun run). hopefully this coincides ok w/ the intensities of ranger training. If not and i'm beat, i'll just not run and it will have to wait till next day. thats all there is to it. no sense killing myself. i'mm supposed to enjoy this, right?
oh btw... w/ running... i wouldnt say that i absolutely love it. who knows how long i'll carry out this running thing. my main goal to do it was because i never could and with all the accomplishments i've achieved i hit a point and was like, ok, i can do this now... So, yeah, we got the 10 mile broad st run coming up may 4. once that's over.. i dont know, we'll see... a marathon would be cool to say i did as well, but again... not exactly sure if i'm a fan of running... i mean, i say this now w/ the lows of this week.. usually on saturdays w/ the long runs and the team is when i hit my highs.... so perhaps running is only best for me as a shared experience w/ others...
anywhoooo tata for now

Ranger Training Day 3
I pretty much felt like ass this morning. My upper body is in a bit of pain from training yesterday and my legs hurt from running.. and my feet are actually really killing me. Blister on my right inner foot. and the balls of my feet just really freaking hurt. I feel like i need a massage or something. also, i've been super stuffy/sinusy and i think this is due to allergies? or maybe i caught a bit of a cold cause i'm coughing some stuff up. GROSS. ANNNNNNND to top it all off, my sleep schedule is still a bit farked. i've been waking up in the middle of the night or around 5 am. COMPLETELY and TOTALLY wierd and abnormal for me. but i know this is due to adopting a new sleep schedule. I can't wait for the day that i get my full night's sleep back. i prob need another week or 2 of adjustment...
yeah so again i had to run to class cause i snoozed and was late. I officially have to set my alarm for 5:50 so i can get one snooze in so i can be up by 6.
Training today we focused on the lower bod. (yesterday was upper +cardio)
We did:
10, 15, 20, 25 of jumping jacks and sprint (i only did 25 sets since i was late by 4mins)
4 sets step out lunges w/ a kickboxing kick w/ a sprint back.
4 sets of squat thrusts, jog, then squat thrust
4 sets of 20 bench sit and stands w/ a jog front to back
4 sets of 20 balancing on water fountain crunch upper and lower body (these kill)
i think that's everything? i forget?
anywho, i pretty much kicked arrrrrrss at the squat thrusts and jogs. not to toot my own horn but i was number 1 in that shizzle. only reason for this i think is because im decently conditioned from taking nates class 1day/wk for about a year as well as being a better runner and having better endurance w/ training for broad st run. I really enjoyed this class, but im feeling it right now. my entire body is kinda aching and i'm supposed to run 4 miles today. i think i'll be doing that inside because this 90degree weather is gonna kill me.
one thing that i'm noticing which i knew would happen is my changed desire w/ eating habits. i'm finding i want a really large breakfast. really substantial. again, i need to outfit my office w/ a blender and get my protein/fruit shakes going, but for today i had a hard boiled egg, lettuce and tomato on rye w/ a bit of mayo... honestly that didnt seem like enough so then i ate 1/2 a protein bar. that seemed to do the trick. i'm kinda not liking the idea of my eating routine changing... cause well, i like my routine and it was/has been working for my weight loss, changing this is a bit scary for me, but it needs to be done because i'm waking up A LOT earlier and i'm working out in the mornings.. something i've never done! Lets see what happens kids!

Ranger Training Day 2
Totally got swamped yesterday and wasnt able to post. i kinda forget most stuff so this will be short and sweet. I made it on time, but barely. I hard to run the whole way from the subway stop with my bookbag and shoulder bag. fun! but at least i made it. I gotta leave by 6:20 so i'm not in a frantic state when i get there. LOVELY. Just what i want to do, wake up earlier.
Training was ok. I feel like i was a bit of the week link. i was finishing last on some of the strength training exercises. Pissed me off to a degree, but w/ the .43mi run around rittenhouse that ranger nate said we needed to do in 2 mins.. i finished 3rd. so thats pretty freaking good. i cant hate on that. oh and no one finished in 2.. just his way of letting e'r one know they needed to haul ass. I was pretty impressed w/ that because i havent been training for speed, only for endurance.. for the braod st run, so i was like, ok girl.. not bad!
I love love love being outside while doing this, the only downfall, for me.. is no music. I am such a music junkie and when proper music is combined w/ physical activity... that just does it for me.. so i realized this is a bit of a bummer for me cause music is my motivation much of the time... but like i said, i'm trying to take in all the scenery. it's pretty awesome there.
thats it for now.
oh also, i'm still training for the broad st run so i needed to get that training in. was supposed to run 3 miles, so i did that at around 6:15. boy did i want to die in the 85 degree weather. + i am not outfitted w/ proper gear and $$$ has been holding me back cause i just got back from WMC and spent a bit, but .. it is NECESSARY and HEALTHY to get the proper attire and footwear i need. Mission for friday (my broad st run rest day) is to go after work and pick up some shiiiiiiiz!
ok finally, thats it for now.

Sgt Nate Ranger Training Started Today
And i am TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRED as SHHHHHHH right now. i'm going to try to post every day about my experiences w/ this boot camp. basically its a 12 week, 5 day/wk class that starts at 7am in rittenhouse park in philly. I am not a morning person but wanted to do this to hopefully become one. I also wanted to do it to find more time in my day. There seems to be more time in your day when you wake up earlier, so i'm giving it a go. I'm also doing this because honestly, i wanna get fit and super tight. I've lost 122 or 24 or something pounds so far (i havent been on the scale lately to know the exacts), but i'm at the stage where i want to accomplish more fitness goals. i wanna do this to lean out and build more muscle. I'm hoping to drop another 10 lbs as well. I'm also continuing to train for the broad street run. I am not a runner, but have been doing quite well. Ran my first 5 this past saturday w/o stopping. So i figure doing ranger training in the AM, combined w/ broad street run training in the evening + yoga/pilates here and there i'll have a PURTY nice lookin bod come end of june. Don't get me wrong, i'm SUUUUUUUUUUUUPER happy w/ where i'm at now... a size 22 to a size 6 aint to shabby! i even squeezed my arss into a size 4 short before winter music conference and they fit. were they an attractive fit? no... but fit nonetheless. lol... i have a feeling they'll be an attractive fit come end of june.

RANGER TRAINING DAY 1
- i was 10 minutes late. gotta make sure i'm out the door even earlier. this was a pretty easy intro class. i'm sure he's going to bring the pain tomorrow, but right now i am SOOOOOOO TIRED... so so so tired. not used to waking up at 6am. and i went to bed at 11pm and tossed and turned all night. not a normal thing for me. i have deep great sleep. my body and sleep schedule is still completely jacked from WMC + i partied on saturday night and went to a bbq sun afternoon/night... let this be a lesson to myself that i need to ease up on the booze and party to lead a comfortable lifestyle the next few months. also gotta arm my office w/ my usual breakfasts. need to buy a blender and get some frozen fruits so i can make my shakes. i love my morning shakes and not having one this morning was kinda depressing. i had a bar instead and it was ehh... just wasnt my shake...i had a banana early in the am for some quick energy before boot camp and that worked really well. after class i'm walking down to 12th st gym to shower and get changed and then walk back to 15th for work. i'm getting a mini work out by carrying 2 heavy bags back and forth! i forgot a bra but luckily i have a cami w/ a built in one. i woulda had to wear my sport one if i didnt have that! so, i really need to make sure i prep the night before and have all my stuff in order so i dont forget anything... and i'm considering renting a locker to keep shower stuff there.. but maybe not, like i said, the lugging heavy stuff can be a positive rather than a negative...
ok thats it for now... until tomorrow
